Star hit a homerun with this one
Monk, Posted On: 8/13/2008

My Raider S is my second bike--graduated up from a V-Star 650 Silverado--and I love it! I''''ve almost finished putting the 1,000 break-in miles on it in just 3 weeks. (Note: There are two break-in points--600 miles, where you''''ll replace the engine and transfer case oil, and 1,000 miles--at which point you''''re considered to have sufficiently broken in the bike.) The look, feel, performance and price of this bike are outstanding. She handles amazingly well for having such a long chasis. The stopping distance is surprisingly small until you look up front and see the two disc rotors and understand why. The torque is heavy in the low end and doesn''''t let up to omuch throughout the gears--fifth gear at 80mph, twist the throttle and you still feel like the bike is trying to run out from under you.
On the negative side, my only complaint is the throttle. There''''s a noticable jerk when you let off and on the throttle. While this is something you can get used to--and it doesn''''t effect your ability to make low-speed turns--, I would prefer a smoother transition into the gas. Perhaps adding a Power Commander or Fuelpak with the new Cobra pipes i''''m going to add will solve the problem.

Ride Safe!

Got a Strong Grip?
MidLifeCrisis, Posted On: 7/24/2008

I started looking for a $2000 beater bike to save gas. I was going to buy a 1985 Honda V65 Magna. Classic old muscle bike, but hard to find a reasonably priced bike that wasn't a rat. So my plan then changed to me buying a new bike. Problem was I didn't know what I wanted. I went to all the major manufacturers and immediately fell in love with the black Yamaha Raider. What a bad ass looking bike! So when I start telling my friends about my possible purchase, my friends became very animated and told me that "I have to get a Harley". So I agreed to take a look at them before I bought anything. And I did so. But I did not find a Harley that when I looked at it it got my juices flowing like the Raider. I think Harley's are great bikes, but the Yamaha Raider was the bike that does it for me. I hadn't ridden a bike for 17 years and the last 2 bikes I owned were crotch rockets. This thing is a BEAST! It's a torque MONSTER. Once I add pipes and tweak the fuel curve it'll open up the top end a little (not that it needs it). You can be cruising along in 4th gear and the bike can feel as if it is going to stall, but when you twist that throttle it'll take off with so much power it'll rip the handle bars right out of your hands. And I'm not kidding. Of course I am just getting back into ridding, but damn this thing is fast. It looks better than any Harley that I looked at on the dealer floor and for half the price. Buy one and hold on!

THIS BEAST
redstarraider, Posted On: 7/23/2008

I have never ridden anything bigger that a kawasaki 750 and that was 25 yrs. ago and for a half hour. But I want a bike now that im 50, so what better than a big bad cruiser. Right? Right!!! i got on it and was scared to death but i had to get it home somehow, so i hopped on and went for it. I made it home! and have been riding everyday now for 2 weeks! What can i say? i love it its got plenty of power it rides great and i have pretty much got it down now. Thats good for a newbie rider. I was also looking at the Suzuki 109r. maybe in a year or two. This is a great bike with all the looks and more power than i will ever need or use. Ive noticed about 35 mpg but its not broken in yet and i am just learning as well. Besides the chicks dig it man!!

Star Raider S...When Will Yamaha Release The Warrior Version Of this Bike?
Performer1, Posted On: 7/16/2008

The Raider S is a very solid design. I'm impressed with the ride, handling, chassis, fit and finish of this bike. For a raked front end motorcycle, it handles amazingly well but don't expect it to tickle your sport bike handling itch. However, with the addition of a Vance Hines exhaust, Patrick Racing air induction kit and a Vance Hines Fuel Pak programmer...I can't begin to tell you how amazing this motor is!!! What a friken monster down low, seriously! I can lift the front tire in 3 gears from a standing start and for a big V-Twin...this thing yanks your arms so hard, you'll never feel this kind of pull at low RPM from any sport bike made! It's one fun some bitch!

With this, I really hope Yamaha will update the Warrior platform to produce this motor in the Warrior chassis...now that would be one fun twin!

Don't need much space to review this bike. In a word...AWESOME!...I have never been on a big bike that gets up and goes like this one does. Nuff said.

Great Street Machine!
Joe, Posted On: 5/21/2008

Just purchased a Raider-S. Looked at numerous Harley models and drove a few. Even though the 113ci is a rocket ship, what was impressive was the handling. A dream to ride! Yamaha Star got it right with this one.

Star raider
Chuck, Posted On: 4/30/2008

Have had my Raider three weeks have approx 450 miles on it.
I like the styling.
I have been doing most of the riding two-up and it been a joy to ride.
I have change a lot of it did have StreetStar long shots
put on they sound really good not too loud.
The build quality is great.
and the price with anything in this class is tops.
I give it a 10 all around.
The test ride was the hook once I rode it I was ready to buy it that's the first time that's happened.

Yamaha Raider Review
Raider Rider , Posted On: 4/2/2008

Drove the Yamaha Raider and loved it! You really feel like a bad-ass on this bike! The low stance of this bike gives you a look and feel of a chopper. My concern was that with the long rake the handling would suffer – to my surprise it didn’t. The Yamaha Raider’s big fat tire gave plenty of grip. The one negative I could think of would be the Raider’s riding position – over an all day ride I would think that one’s arms would go numb.

Just got a Raider S and I did feel some minor discomfort in my arms. I dont feel it anymore, but it just might be that I'm getting used to the bike. Another low is it inability to manuver in small spaces because of the fork angle. I also do not like the black swing arms which are easily exposed by all the replacement pipes I have seen. Guess I'll just have to wait for an aftermarket set of pipes designed to fit the lines of the bike too come out. Untill then I'll have to ride my 1854 cc that has less rumble than the 6 year old neighbors big wheel, I swear if that kid laughs at me again I'm ganna run him over. Too sad that he wont be scared untill he see's me cause theres no way he'll hear me coming!

I have had my Raider for three weeks...put 1200 miles on it, including an all day ride, and have never been saddle sore...the only upgrade was the drag pipes and I would not change a thing. I am 5'6" and the riding position is great, my arms do not get tired...I have test driven victory's and harleys and none compare to the comfort and feel of this bike. Its a 10 in every category: price, comfort, performance. I have had die hard Harley riders say they would love to have one.

How does the Victory 8 Ball compare to the Yamaha Raider?
XENA posted on: 7/14/2008 5:12 PM
YAMAHA BUILT IT, I MADE IT MY OWN. FOURTEEN GRAND GOT ME A BRAND NEW RAIDER S, CANDY RED W/GHOST FLAMES, CHROME WHEELS, AND A BILLET REAR FENDER RACK. AFTER TAKING POSSESSION OF THIS KILLER BIKE, I SLAMMED THE SUSPENSION ALMOST TWO INCHES LOWER, AND AM WAITING FOR THE BELT GUARD TO COME BACK FROM THE CHROMER. THIS BIKE HAS THE YAMAHA SPEEDSTAR DRAGS TO REPLACE THE STOCK BENDERS, OTHERWISE, IT NEEDS NO IMPROVEMENT. WITH A 140MPH SPEEDO AND A HARLEY-BEATER REPUTATION, IT'S SECOND TO NONE.
